Ready to see a one-of-a-kind shop-home? We’re excited to share the details and photos with you.
Sarah Law’s barndominium harmoniously combines the practicality of a pole barn-style shop with grounded posts, while the living area is built on a traditional home foundation.
This 50×100 property features a clever layout with a 60×50 shop and a 40×50 house, all built in 2018.
With an approximate cost of $180k upon completion, most of the work was contracted out, except for a few personal touches like flooring, paint, and custom bathroom countertops.
It’s a perfect blend of a spacious shop area and a comfortable home that the Law family envisioned for the long term. While not overly lavish, it encompasses all of their essential desires.
The Law family didn’t compromise on quality – opting for granite countertops, heated floors, and spray foam insulation.
They used budget-friendly strategies by seeking great deals on fixtures and indulging in DIY projects where possible.
The house features two full baths and a half bath in the shop area.
For heating, they utilized a propane boiler that conveniently doubles as a tankless water heater.
Exterior
The exterior is a stylish combination of white and textured black.
The pole barn-style shop with its grounded posts offers ample space, while a 2-door garage adds convenience.
The living area rests on a traditional home foundation, blending modern comfort with practicality.

The property features a welcoming covered patio surrounded by meticulously manicured landscaping, offering ample outdoor seating for relaxation and enjoyment.
Entranceway/Living Area
The welcoming front door entrance is beautifully painted in the color “Cracked Pepper” by Behr.

The flooring features stunning laminate planks that create a seamless transition between the living, dining, and kitchen areas.
Kitchen & Dining
In the kitchen, there’s a convenient pantry (4 x 4) with a door, offering ample storage space.
The counter provides bar stool seating and forms a circular-like work area.
The granite countertops, with their variations, are easy to maintain. However, the solid black granite kitchen sink, while stunning when clean, proved challenging to keep that way.
The walls are painted in the color Mineral by Behr.
In the dining area, you’ll find a unique skinny table that was homemade from antique porch posts, measuring 30”x7.5’.
This distinctive piece can comfortably seat six people, adding character to the space.

The third bedroom is adorned with the soothing Durango Blue paint by Behr.
Bathroom
The bathroom features a large trough-like sink and a striking black and white floor with 12×12 vinyl “tiles”.
The choice of vinyl tiles was both affordable and practical, providing a similar look to traditional tiles but with easy DIY installation.
The vanity and top are unique creations, handcrafted from cedar boards that were planed, pegged, and glued together.
The personal touch extends to maintenance too, with occasional use of wood cleaner and Murphy’s oil.
A strong sealant ensures durability, while the walnut poly stain mix adds an attractive finish to the ensemble.
The bathroom also boasts a well-designed shower that complements the rustic aesthetic with its attention to detail and functionality.
The bathroom also has plenty for toiletries, towels, and more.
Laundry/Mud Room
The walls are adorned with Sharpie Shiplap, adding a unique touch to the space.
A bench sourced from Tractor Supply provides a functional and rustic seating option.
The black and white floor, consistent with the bathroom’s aesthetic, continues to add pops of visual interest.
An entrance/exit to the garage completes the layout, ensuring convenience and easy access to the outdoors.
The laundry room is optimized for functionality with ample storage and counter space, allowing for efficient organization.
A strategically placed window infuses the space with natural light, creating a pleasant atmosphere for tasks.
Garage
The garage offers an expansive area, ideal for accommodating large vehicles, recreational vehicles, and trailers.
Its ample space provides versatility and convenience for storing various types of vehicles and equipment.
Floor Plan
Unfortunately, all that remains is a screenshot of the preliminary draft of the Law’s barndominium.
They sought inspiration from online sources, choosing elements they liked and creating their own floor plans.
By combining ideas from different existing plans, they meticulously tailored the design to match their unique dimensions and preferences.
